As an older disabled gamer, I’m inclined to agree, even though my disability (and “people” issue in general) causes me to avoid multiplayer games. Fortunately my screening process has succeeded in blocking haters from my group of friends, and I’m happy to have numerous close LGBTQ friends among them who are able to express themselves freely
I just returned to the Steam gaming platform yesterday after a six-month absence. In the 5 years or so I’ve been a member, I’ve rarely been AWOL even a day, much less six months. But not for the same reason as you.
Once the UN reports on climate change told the world just how serious the matter was, and almost no one on Steam either knew, or seemed to care, my feelings about gaming changed. For one thing, gaming caused me to feel guilty, having fun while the world’s and all its life faced such a bleak future. What were Steam gamers passionate concerned about? The EPIC Store! A competing gaming platform was (to many, not all by any means) of greater importance than the greatest cumulative suffering that the world may ever know.
But I do what I can, and will continue to do so. And in the meantime, I’ll attempt to distract from my own physical pain by trying to find enjoyment where I can. (And we can both try to work around the deplorable contribution of the gaming community to gamergate, and the beginnings of the 8chan hate site.)
Thank you. Very well presented.
