As far as marriage equality goes, please forgive me for repeating myself. (I can't seem to stop when I get riled up.)
Though I am not a lawyer, the term "marriage contract" basically refers to the fact that every person in America who wishes to marry has to do so by means of a legally enforceable document. The same is true for every person who wishes to rent an apartment or buy a car on time.
Many people in America seem committed to including God in their marriage contracts as well, and I suppose there's no harm in that, as long as it remains a private and personal manner.
But when these same people refuse to express the same level of "apoplexity" over two men or two women co-signing a rental agreement, or car loan note to buy and share a car, this needs to be called exactly what it is in every case where rights are imperiled; a hate crime.
Thank you, L.A. (Back to the rest of your excellent article...)
