"Don’t do work for this church!"
At both ends of my state of South Carolina I've been told this, but about certain Christians, not specifically churches.
One person was a property-owning friend trying to collect from a tenant, a preacher draped in gold chains. The other was a hardware store owner who said he no longer offers credit to such people. (They're now closed, so I suppose having such a policy concerning about 90% of the population was not profitable, no matter the possible accuracy.)
Perhaps it's purely regional, and there will always be a few bad "forbidden fruits of knowledge" in any group of people.
