I can remember as a tiny child there were exactly two words we were never allowed to say. (Racial slurs were never an option. We simply did not know them.)
The two words were:
1) "ain't" - my mother wanted us to appreciate proper grammar. The one time I used it (specifically because I was too young to think of a better word at that moment) she slapped me hard.
2) "hate" - While I don't know the origin of this prohibition, I'm grateful that my young brain was never wired to be comfortable with it.
