I can’t possibly forget my introduction to The Moral Majority.

I heard that Jerry Falwell would be speaking on his Old Time Gospel Hour about Reagan’s nuclear program (approx. 1981), so I tuned in. His argument was basically that all “good Americans” should support nuclear armament, because that was the surest path to Armageddon. He was leading the war chart for the end of humanity.

So, to get a copy of the show in booklet and cassette form (which I still have, somewhere) I made that request and in doing so received my Moral Majority membership card. I doubt I need to mention that that was the only thing ever offered for free. (The average request from that moment on was $50. One supposes The Second Coming is a very high overhead operation.)
