I have to wonder how many white Americans would see this list of slave-build American landmarks (and a very incomplete listing at that), and ever considered the "what-if" of it being the other way around.
Or if some did, how many of them would simply walk away without considering what they might be due, and what they would have paid?

Or the white southerner, remembering the prosperous pre-war south, now basically going begging to the federal government each year to survive from the efforts of the rest of America in its post-war poverty? Knowing that what changed was the value the south only had due to slave labor. Again, would they be happy to simply walk away without even the broken-promised "40 acres and a government mule"?
