I too received an expected gift; Christmas 1973 I received the very first console game sold in America: Magnavox Odyssey. (And yes, I still have almost all of it.)

But while the Main Attraction was pong, the reality was that every game included was Pong, just using a plastic overlay taped to the TV screen to give a different appearance to each.

And if you've returned to gaming you may be aware that one of the hottest arcade games to this day is the "BrickBreaker" type of game, which is little more than a paddle hitting a ball again and again and again.
