I understand this is a terribly intrusive question, but might you be willing to explain what it meant to you as you created it?

As (un)fair exchange, it seems to me to express growth through adversity and challenge. (Perhaps akin to what I have very often told those in pain; if there is even one moment in the future when life is worthwhile, it’s worth any price required to get there.)
