I was wearing a "Trumpless America" sweatshirt on a visit with my mother to her doctor. While waiting, I noticed an older woman on her phone sitting near me, and she appeared to be having trouble getting a ride home.

We talked briefly, and she declined my help. It bears mentioning that I was sitting between her and the front door.

I stood up for some reason, and she saw the message on my sweatshirt. Suddenly, the situation became very different.

She quickly moved in order to be sitting in the one chair just past the front door, and was so terrified she was trembling. I asked if I could help her, and this once friendly and talkative woman was now monosyllabic, and afraid to look at me.

Eventually her ride came, and she quickly left.

I have little choice but to presume, based on timing, that my anti-Trump message was a warning to her that I was in fact, one of those pro-choice, satanic baby-eaters she's heard so much about on Fox, and from her friends on Facebook, and from dinner conversations with relatives. (And around here, it's likely someone may have never encountered an admitted Democrat before.)

It's entirely possible that had the wrong person come for her and then asked why she was so upset, that might have been my last day. (Yes, guns.)

It's not usually like that, but it only takes once....

So I remain anonymous.

(My name is actually Raul Alphonso de La Hapsburg-Getty, of the Austrian side of the Hapsburg family. And now you know.)
