I'll always remember watching Jerry Falwell's "Ol' Time Gospel Hour" on TV in the early 80s. (NOT because I was a fan, but because I'd been informed of the topic.)
Jerry F. told his worshippers that they needed to support Reagan's nuclear program, because that would mean the second coming when Earth was destroyed. The suffering and death of billions meant little compared to what he saw he would personally profit. (Somewhere I still have the cassettes and booklets I requested specifically on this topic.)
But just to cover his bases, this was also the trigger for a huge Moral Majority scam, in which I (and no doubt countless others) were sent mailings , at minimum monthly, requesting for a minimum of $50 each.
I used to think everyone has an angle. Evangelicals, it seems, have two.
