In all seriousness, I was once given the responsibility (as a non-engineer) to teach engineers and wannabe engineers how to use statistical process control (SPC) software. How did I manage? By using Get Smart.
And I believe the connection is genuine:
Chaos and Control, 99% and 86% as the first and second ranges of deviation. (Sorry, it's been decades, so I've more than rusty.)
But this was in the early 90s, when people still remembered Get Smart pretty well, and it really seemed to help.
