It's regrettably difficult to be surprised, considering last week's Supreme Court debacle.

It seems Alito and Thomas spend a distressing amount of time trying to tie the shipping/mailing of birth control to the Comstock Act. In that context, the far-right is equating health care to obscenity; literally and specifically. (The only obscene thing about health care is the >60 GOP attempts to deny >21,000,000 Americans access to the ACA.)

What you describe is much the same. If they can't control words for their purposes, they will try to end their use. The right basically was unable to make the word "gay" as hurtful as they wished (because even children aren't as ignorant or closed-minded as the average far-right American), so they have to try to eliminate the word entirely.

And their clear purpose is to not allow "certain people" to be seen as human (by law, in many cases), and will instead be seen exactly as the worst segments of society wish them to be seen. Desperate and sick, but often all too effective.
