I've written rather extensively on Medium about being raised as a non-racist white child, and how NO infant is born racist. The presence (or absence) of racism in the early years is based on family, and once they leave the house, many of them / us only see racism as a form of unfairness and cruelty, and later illogic.

One of my pieces was titled "White Privilege is NOT the Same as White Racism." Because it isn't.

I have even documented my deep south upbringing as a non-racist (though often ignorant, and certainly benefiting from "white privilege", even decades before it had a name.) Neither ignorance of the dangers faced by Blacks in the decades after integration, nor benefiting from being white says I'm racist, and in fact just the opposite. Where I live in the rural south, I'd FAR rather strike up a conversation with a Black stranger than a white one. Is that racism?

Thank you.
