I can't help but be reminded of a time I spent as an extended temp employee for a southern county library.

On of the branches I worked in was in a tiny town, and the head librarian was married to an evangelical preacher. I heard her offer invitations to attend services to many library patrons, yet never to me (known not to be a churchgoer.) Those already committed tend to drop funds in the plate. Those not so committed tend to not. It made perfect sense.

(This same woman, speaking specifically to me, once said, "I don't hate anyone, because Jesus said not to hate. But if I did hate someone, it would be the Japanese."
