“…not all white people…”
AS one, and one who still vividly remembers the shock of his first exposure to institutionalized segregation in (approx.) 1961 South Carolina, I know in my heart that no one expects me to stop caring simply because of my skin. Well, almost no one. There do seem to be those few that seem to think I should be supporting only the rights of aging, hetero, divorced, liberal, disabled, southern males, and anything else is a lie on my part. (I’ll pass.)
I even read on Medium once that Blacks should not trust liberal whites (though I’d hope an exception might be made for Misters Goodman and Schwerner, and many other whites punished for being “race traitors”.)
But that’s not really the point. The point I’m having such trouble making is that I realize the sad truth of the fantasy world so many white Americans live in, especially in the south that I have no choice but to call my home. As such, unless a writer condemns all whites, I’m generally inclined accept whatever level of criticism is being presented. Otherwise, why am I fighting?
Thank you, and please forgive if I failed to express myself properly, and may have offended. (And for being an inappropriately substantial presence.)
