Respectfully, it’s republicans themselves that paint themselves as negative with almost their every action. (I say this as someone active in American politics for > 50 years, mostly in the deep south. And white.)

For example, I’ve been asking around in places such as Medium for years for just one piece of legislation to help non-wealthy regular American citizens live better lives that came from the repubhlican party. I’ve yet to receive even one example, but perhaps you will be different. Republicans fought Democrats over every piece of positive legislation currently existing in America: social security, unemployment insurance, G I Bill, FICA, WIC, Clean Air/Water and it’s a VERY long list. We rural Americans would still not have power or mail delivery if repubs had their way. (We still stand to lose mail delivery at the hands of the GOP.) And please don’t use tax cuts for billionaires as a way the American citizenry has benefited. from republican legislation.)

It's repubs that call themselves pro-life, when they really mean anti-abortion, and do very little to keep anything alive except ideas of white superiority. The last several years have done absolutely nothing to disprove that.
