You make good points, but after Columbine (and not just dead students, but guns in inappropriate hands.) I tend to discount the above statement. And since then, I would consider it to be a bit ridiculous. (Though your comment was clearly specific to the timeframe of Sandy Hook, so shootings since then may matter to parents (they do), but not to invalidate your comment.)
And seemingly Remington took it seriously enough to provide thousands of useless memes in their document disclosure:
Clearly they're afraid enough to try to slow down the lawsuit with thousands of items of inappropriate crap. (which is obviously more important to Remington than the lives of children.)
