Thank you for pointing out this madness, and how it seems to absolutely stagger the imagination.

Fed candidate Stephen Moore claimed very recently to believe “capitalism is more important than democracy”, and from their lack of reaction to the horrors of the recent UN reports, financial markets may agree. I’m more inclined to go further. and say it appears that capitalism seems to be of greater importance to the world’s financial sectors even than the continuation of humanity. (The strong possibility of measuring Earth’s dead in hundreds of millions seems to have minimal impact, as we suddenly realize the chance of countless deaths resulting from conflicts and wars, issues of migration and hate-fueled mob violence, homelessness and abject poverty due to rising sea level, weather disasters, deforestation and their resulting mudslides and insect and wildlife collapses, increasing infant mortality, drought, starvation, wildfires, economic collapse, flooding (including compromised dams and super-dams, levees and riverbanks), disease, shortened life expectancy, crop failure and lack of basic medical care will quite likely become as much everyday occurrences as Trump’s lies are now. Ho hum…)

I not sure the reaction from Main Street to the warning about the imminently possible collapse of society is much more noticeable than that of Wall Street. Under Obama gun sales soared, but now that there may be a legitimate need to provide protection for families due to the actual threat of coming violence, several firearms companies have actually begun bankruptcy proceedings in one form or another (though admittedly, not connected directly to the recent UN warnings. Still, the timing is a real headscratcher.) Bizarrely, Americans have seemingly expressed greater fear of a Black president offering affordable health care than they have of the catastrophic end of humanity. Apparently, the motto of the far right is now, “Choose your fantasies carefully.”
