True enough, and a very good thing indeed that would be unlikely to be brought into existence today. (One can also say that Nixon opening up China was something badly needed for China and the world.)
However, the creation of the EPA was not done through legislation, but rather an executive order. (I purposefully use "legislation" as my benchmark because that indicates some degree of consensus within the party, rather than one republican, or even a handful.) Also, the EPA coincidentally began operation 52 years ago today(!) (12/2/70), which was a hair over 50 years ago, like the example within my post. (If the list were to include all actions of the GOP that helped working Americans positively, I'd have included many of them deciding to retire from office.)
