Trump reached out to a specific audience: those so racist they didn't only wish to deny healthcare to their own children (because they refused to tell their children that a Black president did someone wonderful), but they felt it appropriate to support denying that healthcare to all the working poor in their state.

So Trump simply said, "That was a wonderfully racist action, and certainly one that I will approve (even if your Jesus does not), but that's just a start toward expressing your racist hatred in countless ways. And I will support you every step of the way. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!"

Yet we act surprised.....
