While what I wish to share isn't quite the same as your informative article (and thank you for the 60 Minutes link), it's close enough in some ways to be worth mentioning.
I heard a story on NPR years ago about a slave cemetery located in Manhattan, centuries after having been built over. Among the sets of remains found were those of a child who had literally been worked to death. That child was 4 years old.
I can't imagine this child ever knew a single moment of happiness or free from agony in his brief life from the moment he took his first steps until he fell to the ground his final time.
I can imagine that awareness of this sort of horror is exactly what scares racists like Ron DeSantis so badly.
